We're an NGO made of seven people sharing the same concerns and ambitions.

We do our best to act with rigorous transparency, alongside partners on the ground who give concrete value to our commitment, in every seed they plant and every tree they care for.

We raise resources in the Global North and transfer them to the Global South redirecting donations, crowdfunding, and small calls for proposals, trying to do well what we’ve decided to pursue, also thanks to your help.

We believe that planting a tree, even just one, is already a declaration of intent against those who would lead us to believe it's pointless, exactly the same way the Gods discarded that stone from a perfect system (*this beautiful novel is “The dream of the red chamber”). We need people who constantly ask themselves: What can I do today that's true?

The stone and the tree

A story about despair and its roots

There is an ancient myth, told by a great Chinese novel*, about a stone discarded by the Gods as they were rebuilding the pillars meant to hold up the sky.

Wandering in search of a new mission, it found a fragile sapling thirsting for water. And it gave itself to that little plant, the last few tears of a stone that had wept since the making of the heavens.

This myth made us realize that tears are the only energy that does not lie. tears4trees was born from this paradox, transforming tears into roots. To us, despair is the one force capable to turn into something new, so as not to stop crying, but to stop crying in vain.

A growing tree is the proof that your powerlessness, the real one, the one that makes you clench your fists in front of the news, can become an act.

Donata was my primary school teacher. She is the very inspiration who made possible the creation of the tears4trees project.

Ivo was my student at primary school. He was a child full of imagination and dreams. Now he finally found a way to make them real with tears4trees.

Emanuela is an Italian chemist working in the medical-scientific sector interested in the consequences of climate on healthcare

tears4trees was born from a question that couldn't go unanswered: in the context we face every day, the one where climate phenomena are the most dramatic consequence, what can we do - alone - to react ?

We tried to respond searching for small organisations in Africa who had already demonstrated their ability to work concretely for the environment, and we finally found them. Together4trees is an example: they have been working in Kenya for years, in the Nyeri region, engaging schools and local communities with a simple and rooted approach.

While these organisations quietly plan reforestation projects by planting indigenous species and fruit trees, we raise funds from around the world, from private individuals, businesses, and through European calls. Our NGO was established as a non-profit, therefore all funds raised are transferred entirely to organisations working for reforestation projects.
